This week Rugby Town Ladies FC sponsored by Jamesway Travel headed to Droitwich for their first away game of the new campaign.
Rugby Town Ladies made the better start keeping the majority of the possession, playing the ball well from the back, the opposition struggled to cope with the movement & slick passing form Rugby, getting the ball through to forward Kerri Young who was able to finish for 0-1 on 10 minutes.
The good play continued, with Loren Bliss linking up well down the line with Kelly Worthington and Andie Coupland. Kat Watkins was instrumental moving forward, working hard to play the ball into the box or down the line for Hannah Parker to make some excellent runs. The ladies were unfortunate to concede following a counter attack from Droitwich going in at half time 1-1.
The second half was tough for Rugby who found themselves under a lot of pressure from the Droitwich attack, following a change in tactics by the opposition manager, partly forced on him by an injury but mainly by Rugby’s dominance in midfield.
Becky Clusker, Adele Rogers and goalkeeper Leah Morris did a great job of clearing up at the back. However, Droitwich were lucky to capitalize on an opportunity in front of the goal going up 2-1. Caitlin Revan battled in the middle working hard throughout. For the last ten minutes, Rugby went all out for the equaliser, coming close with some good play from Kelly and Caitlin but unfortunately conceded again despite having an opportunity only seconds before.
Final score: Droitwich Spa Ladies FC 3 – 1 Rugby Town Ladies FC
Jamesway Travel Player of the Match was awarded to Loren Bliss
