Desford Girls u14s v Rugby Town Girls u14s

The U14s travelled to rivals Desford for a match likely to determine 3rd place in the league. With no substitutes and tough opponents the players knew it would not be an easy game but met every challenge.

The first part of the first half was fairly even with half chances at both end. Amber switched to a man-marking role on the dangerous Desford striker and this helped to tighten things up as she kept her quiet and Ella and Lexy defended strongly with her, tracking the Desford wingers and stopping them creating chances.

The platform was there for Rugby to attack and chances came with Cesca constantly looking to get in on goal and some shots from range from Kayla looking the most likely way to score. It stayed 0-0 though until a brilliant goal from Savannah who showed strength to hold off an opponent on the left wing before great skill to turn inside, leave the defender stranded and fire in a shot. It was a great goal and the team celebrated the moment to take the lead.

The second half started with the game still at 1-0 and the players needing to show more determination so that they could keep on top. The players went out ready to fight and dominated the second half. There were a few breakaways from Desford but the defenders kept on top of the Desford attackers and Jodie grew in confidence in goal and calmly collected the ball showing a safe pair of hands on a number of occasions.

At the other end Rugby created a number of chances with Molly and Kayla dominating the midfield and Cesca, Megan and Savannah pushing forwards. Despite the lack of substitutes and Ella having to leave the field a couple of times due to injury the team played a brilliant game, working hard for each other and showing creativity and awareness of space to get plenty of shots on goal. There were 2 goals for Molly and a final one from Cesca and the game finished 4-0.

It was a great result against strong rivals and all built on a brilliant performance. This team shows their strength and consistency every week and continue to put in strong performances whoever the opposition and could be really proud of their efforts again.
