Rugby Town Ladies FC 7 – 0 Leamington Lions Ladies FC

Rugby Town Ladies sponsored by Jamesway Travel were visited by Leamington Lions for their second league game of the season, having won the last three games, the ladies were full of confidence.

Rugby were quick to open the scoring through Chloe Debaes lofting the keeper for 1-0. The ladies played some good balls through the Rugby midfield of Abbie Hartfield and Kat Watkins pressuring the Leamington defence. Chloe Debaes finished for 2-0, a great shot across goal. The Rugby defence continued to play from the back through Leah Morris playing it out quick to fullback Kelly Worthington who was able to drive forward. Chloe picked up the ball just outside the box, holding it long enough to play a perfect flick over the Leamington defence for Megan Board to finish 3-0. The ladies were not finished, with another shot on goal from Kat Watkins being parried by the Leamington keeper, only for Megan Board to slot the ball home, bottom right corner. 4-0 to Rugby at half time.

Kerri Young and Andie Coupland continued to work hard on the wings attacking the space forward. Jen Johnston came on as the right full back also doing well moving the ball well supporting the midfield forward. The goals continued to come for Rugby, the fifth from a very well taken free kick shot from Kat Watkins. 5-0. Rugby kept piling on the pressure and were rewarded from a corner when Abbie Hartfield was able to get her head on the end of it, scoring a great first goal for Rugby. The final goal came through a 1-2 played with Kat and Megan, the pass created space for Kat to have a shot from outside of the area hitting the back of the net. 7-0.

Another good performance for the ladies, giving them a great start to league action taking 6 points out of 6.

Next week, Rugby Town take on West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup at Kilsby Lane at 2pm, come down & cheer on the team, all support is greatly appreciated.
