Rugby Town Girls u11s v Blaby Girls u11s

The U11’s were faced immediately with a fast paced, energetic and physical Blaby team. Rugby responded well and soon got a good rhythm. All players were involved from the off as the ball was passed quickly from one end of the pitch to the other. Ella and Izzy started in defence, and were faced with a persistent attack at times which they dealt with in a good partnership. They made some determined blocks and made some good clearances, also communicating well with Hannah to support Sofia on goal – who as usual was a ‘safe pair of hands’ and made a couple of excellent saves. Evie, Hannah and Ellie were always on the go, and kept fighting for the ball to keep it in possession.

Evie and Ellie made some great passes to Kelsie and also got into the box well. They weren’t deterred by the physical nature of the game and tackled well – feeding the ball to Kelsey who also showed her fighting spirit in getting the ball. Kelsey and Elle had some super shots on target and a number of near misses. The whole team seemed determined.

With 5 subs the second half started with lots of fresh legs and a new midfield and defence. After settling into the game they were soon passing well and dealing with the Blaby pressure. Ellie and Amy now in defence also worked well together. Both had the opportunity to show their big kicks to get the ball down the pitch. Unfortunately a moment of confusion in defence the fast feet from Blaby overpowered the team and Blaby took advantage with a lucky goal, (in 50 mins of great play). However, the girls responded well with a period on the attack, with Tash, Ava and Kelsey trying to get shots on goal.

They showed some good skills in the box and Tash and Ava are really improving at tracking back – which was essential in this game but we’re still making some great runs/passes. Mia also showed her skills with some good tackles and feeding the ball where needed and again broke up a number of Blaby attacks with great determination. Sofia was kept even busier in the second half and showed how dependable she is, but an unfortunate accidental Rugby handball in the area led to a penalty which Blaby took advantage of. Ellie kept her head up after this and soon got back in the game, not giving up. Great response.

All girls gave their all today and showed skills and an improved awareness of the game and positional play.

Managers player of the game: Ella for excellent tackles and ball clearances.
Parents player of the game: Ellie for not giving up and great long kicks.

Captain. Hannah who lead by example, with a real captains performance breaking up the opposition attacks with determined tackling, and making some brave blocks.
