On a very cold afternoon with a bitter wind the U15s hosted Asfordby Amateurs.
The visitors sit bottom of the league, have no goal keeper in their squad and are still looking for their first points of the season. However the team spirit and smiles from them are there for all to see.
This was evident when on the 20-minute mark they took the lead, this lead to celebrations reminiscent of the FA giant killing celebrations from the 1970s, the manager joining the whole team in a celebratory huddle. Rugby then decided to settle down and begin playing football as a team. Playing as a team and having fun was the 2 tasks that Rugby were tasked with for the match.
On 26 minutes Rugby opened their account through Chloe, this settled Rugby slightly and they continued to press, Lauren scored on 30 minutes and 4 minutes later Chloe got her 2nd with a header in the 6-yard box. Lauren not to be out done scored 30 seconds later to take Rugby into a 4 1 half time lead.
A half time reminder to the team that passing the ball is a good thing spurred them on and Lauren got her hat trick on 52 minutes. Hollie scored on 56 minutes on her return from injury. The team formation was moved around, and unusual substitutions were made all match to test the girls in unusual positions. This had a positive effect with Kerri moving from defence to attack bag herself a well taken goal. Cait then went from right back to centre forward and duly netted her maiden goal for Rugby Town!!!
Well done girls it was good to see some smiles on the red faces at the end.
Final score
Rugby Town U15s 9 Asfordby Amateurs. 1
Managers player of the match went to Tasha who was solid in defence in her first season of playing, keep it up!!
