Sunday morning with grey and over cast skies and a home match for the first time in a few weeks. This was important as we had come off an away defeat to Royce Rangers the week before in a tough fixture that had tested the girls throughout the game. So it was good to have a home game on the Astro of Butlin Road against Albert Village Tigermoths who we welcomed as our opponents playing in their yellow away kit. The coaching team had a good squad for the game and set out a strong opening formation with attack in mind. This was very evident with wave after wave of free flowing football and highlighted by some of the best meaningful passing of the season so far. Only excellent goalkeeping and hardworking opposition defensive play by the Tigermoths reduced Rugby rewards in front of goal. Lottie was playing very well holding up the ball well, passing with good vision and bringing in the other front forward players on each attacking move. As the half ended a good lead had been secured by the Rugby town girls.

HT: 4-0

During the second half the coaching team rested some players and changed player positions as a development opportunity. This worked well and it was nice to see Emy-Mae get on the score sheet with a hardworking forward role. Again the Tigermoths worked hard despite the scoreline and even threatened several times as the play opened up near the end of the game. Credit must also go to the Town defensive and goalkeeping team in keeping a clean sheet. As the game ended Rugby kept the pressure on and took some more chances with strong forward play with good rotation of players on the bench.

Overall a nice performance and highlights included the first half free flowing and passing game which is so hard to stop. Away next game after a mini weekend break and hopefully the team can take its confidence to the next match. Well done and special call out to Martin who ran a very good line, up and down the pitch trying to keep
up with the attacking flowing game! With an additional thanks to the parents who helped put the goals up and away despite the grey, damp and cold conditions.

FT: 8-0
