On a crisp mid-morning, Rugby Town U12 secured a victory over an impressive Kibworth Town, in a match that showcased improved skill, determination, and tactical prowess.
The first half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams demonstrating solid defensive skills, limiting scoring opportunities for each team. Possession bounced back and forth equally for the first 15-20 minutes, until a well timed run by Bella from the left wing allowed a one touch scoring opportunity for Rugby Town. This gave Rugby Town a slight lead heading into half, but also that boost of team confidence to return after a break ready to continue the momentum.

The second began exactly how the first ended, with Rugby Town straight on the attack, not only collectively performing some brilliant link up play, but also incorporating a quick, high press that we’ve been focusing on in training these past couple of weeks. Kibworth was working hard for an equaliser, yet unable to find the net past our strong GK, Norah. A combination of teamwork and individual skill led to Eve scoring an impressive hat-trick, as well as Lottie and Amy also finding success in the net. But none of those goals would’ve been on the radar had our defensive play not been under tight control. Esme and Izzy worked well in the back line, with timed tackles, well read interceptions, while also being patient and passing up the wings at the right time. Poppy and Hetty were also formidable at centre back, limiting attacks down the middle. Final whistle allowed a deep breath from everyone after such a high paced, team effort.
