An early morning trip to South Charnwood High School for Rugbys second game of the season in the new league. After some initial transport issues were overcome the girls all arrived and were ready for their first away game of the season on a decent grass pitch.
First Half:
The match kicked off with Markfield quickly establishing their dominance racing into a 2 goal lead within the first five minutes. Megan was in good form and made a number of saves during the first half to keep Markfield out but was by far the busier of the two keepers in the first 35 minutes. After 20 minutes Rugby made some substitutions to try and get back into the game but by halftime, Markfield had already secured a 3-0 lead with some good passing moves and good finishes.
Second Half:
The second half saw Markfield continue their relentless attack. Despite Rugby’s efforts to regroup and mount a comeback, Markfield’s defence remained impenetrable. With some more substitutions during the second half Rugby started to get back into the game with Leila coming close after battling well to win the ball back. However, Markfield added two more goals to their tally, sealing a comprehensive and well deserved 5-0 victory.
Key Moments:
-
1st Half: Markfield’s early goals set the tone for the match which meant Rugby were always chasing the game.
-
2nd Half: Continued dominance by Markfield, with two additional goals. Some better play from Rugby and a few shots for the Markfield keeper to deal with.
Conclusion:
Markfield’s performance was a masterclass in both attack and defence. Rugby, despite their best efforts, were unable to break through Markfield’s solid defence. The Markfield centre back being the stand out player from both teams, composed on the ball and quick to cover any attacks from Rugby. The final scoreline of 5-0 reflected Markfield’s superiority on the day and highlighted the level that Rugby should aspire to in terms of fitness and determination to be first to the ball.
Coaches player Amelia
Thanks to Dave and Dave for everything that they do for the team, not just training and coaching at matches but everything else in the background that they are doing to help the team have a successful season. It is a big transition for the girls this season, bigger pitches, bigger goals and a higher division with a higher standard of opposition. They need to keep working hard and the results will then follow.
