Rugby took on Hinckley in quarter final of the league cup. Rugby had a lightish squad with just one substitute available. The opposition on the other hand appeared to have an entire army at their disposal.

The away side started brightly and created some good opportunities before Rugby started to find their way in to the game. Mid way through the half Hinckley took the lead as their attacker found themselves with time and space on the edge of the box and was able to pick their spot. Rugby were linking up well and enjoying good possession down the flanks. This eventually paid off when Millie cut in from the right side and fired in a shot that was too hot to handle for the away keeper. A late mix up at the back allowed Hinckley to steal in and retake the lead. HT 1-2

The second half continued to be close with both sides finding chances difficult to create. Eventually good link up play down the left resulted in Ellie receiving the ball in the box where she was able to guide the ball in to the corner. Both sides pushed for a winner culminating in a seemingly endless scramble of attempts from Hinckley and heroic blocks from Rugby. A quick break then gave the home side a chance to take the game but sadly the final whistle fell.

A tense game ended with the even tenser scenario of penalties where Hinckley finished victorious.

POM: we win and lose as a team and the effort and tenacity of the entire squad deserves recognition today.
