Rugby Town Ladies FC was brought together as a team/club in the 1990 season, and run independently for a considerable number of seasons.
At the start of season 2006/07 Rugby Town Ladies FC joined forces with Rugby Town Girls FC, to promote the growth of girls & women’s football within the Borough of Rugby. The clubs now unite providing football from under 6s junior girls teams through to senior women football.
In 2019 Rugby Town Ladies FC was changed to Rugby Town Women FC and continues to be part of the Rugby Town Girls & Women FC
Rugby Town Girls FC is an all-female club that dates back to the start of the 1994/1995 season when it was formed from a single team of 14 players. It has continued to grow & develop to the present day with around 180 playing members comprising groups from 5s to open-age women’s teams.
With the backing of Birmingham County F.A. & Rugby Borough Council, were the first all-female football club in the area promoting girls’ and women’s football from its infancy.
In the 2003/04 season, the club was in partnership with Rugby Town Junior F.C., Rugby Town F.C., and Rugby Borough Council for the growth & development of football opportunities for all. Declan Whelan, club chairman from 1999 to 2009 worked with the FA to gain the FA Charter Standard award, and the club has now grown to be part of the community group of clubs in Rugby since 2008.
Season upon season the club goes from strength to strength with a continued increase in female players and with the valued support of parents, club officials, and sponsors. The aim is to ultimately bring top-flight women’s football to Rugby but also to ensure that anyone irrespective of age or ability has the opportunity to play football and have FUN!
All primary coaching staff is at the very least F.A. Level 1 qualified including DBS checked, emergency first aid & children safeguarding trained as minimum.
In 2018 Rugby Town Girls & Women FC moved to Rugby Town to enjoy first-class facilities that could be provided for the growing club to continue a long-term partnership and continue being an FA-linked 2-Star club. The women’s team plays out from a great stadium arena with great coaching and match day facilities and two Astro turfs for all junior teams, that can be used safely by all its members throughout the year.
