After a few weeks devoid of fixtures, Rugby faced an away game at Sileby Juniors in Leicestershire on what was a crisp, sunny morning.  Today’s game was played across four 10-minute quarters.

Rugby had a full squad meaning there were plenty of opportunities for rotation and rest.  Due to an unfortunate oversight by the kitman, Rugby were forced to play in bibs but still looked every inch a united team!

Rugby started the game with Paige as goalkeeper, Lorna in defence, Maisie F and Imogen in midfield with Sophie as striker. Both teams were pretty evenly matched during the first quarter but after great energy by all outfield players.

The second quarter saw the introduction of Flossy, Maisie B, Ada and Primrose as outfield players with Paige continuing as goalkeeper.  Some highlights during this quarter included some solid defending by Maisie B who also made some good passes for link up play with her teammates.  Flossy and Primrose made some strong attacking runs and Ada provided some good forward play. Paige was once again excellent in goal.

The third quarter saw Lorna playing in defence and who read the game well throughout, making some good tackles.  In midfield, Phoebe played alongside Maisie B and made some important tackles as well as attacking runs when provided the opportunity.  Maisie B demonstrated excellent positional awareness and linked up play effectively.  Imogen also made some important tackles when needed.

The opponents mounted a good spell of attacking play. Rugby remained positive and during the final quarter there were some excellent pieces of link up play between Maisie F and Sophie. Primrose and Flossy worked tirelessly with Primrose dribbling effortlessly past a number of the opposition players during one memorable run.  Rugby continued their high energy and kept going until the very end.  Overall, a hugely enjoyable game to watch.

Coaches’ player of the match went to Maisie F for her brilliant attacking runs during the game. Parents’ player of the match went to Primrose for some excellent dribbling and strong tackles.  Players’ player of the match went to Flossy for her endless energy and link up play.

Thanks as always to parents/carers for their continued support.  See you next week.
