Another Rugby Towns U9’s home match on a mild January morning against Asfordby Amateurs U9’s Gems. The coaching team had a squad of 8 players to rotate throughout the match. With the game being played over 2 x 20 minute periods.
The girls immediately decided to attack the game in a very determined manner with plenty of hard work and some excellent passing in a very high tempo start. From this Rugby succeeded in winning the majority of the 50/50 balls, whilst turning this into numerous opportunities with a very strong early display of intent. Despite this excellent start the Rugby girls, the Gems countered with pace during early stages.
As the second half started the possession and play seemed to swing back into the control of the Rugby girls as they built up a head of steam and momentum. Whilst at the same time producing a nerve jangling experience for the watching home parents as Rugby produced wave after wave of attacking and free flowing football. This style soon created excellent play in what turned out to be a highly entertaining game with both teams playing end to end football. This was linked to some excellent Rugby Town defending which allowed Rugby to maintain the pressure at the other end.
In summary: Another really enjoyable game with both teams playing some great football in a very clean and friendly game. The Rugby Town U9’s can play with real flare and tempo producing very exciting must watch games week after week with plenty of smiles and friendship.
POM: Sienna W. for meticulous display of reading the game well, including excellent cover at the back whilst supporting her team mates in attacking positions.
PPOM: Roisin: for an incredible first half, complete with strong forward drives, crisp passes, and hustle to recover, and continued demonstration of improvement for one of our newest players.
