The first match since New Year saw Rugby Town U9 playing at home against Sileby Juniors U9 Wildcats. From the kick off it was the away team that seemed to gain the momentum which seemed to shock the Rugby girls at its quick pace. Rugby Town was slow to start, maybe an impact from the holiday break or too much laser tag the day before!
After this initial period of Sileby pressure, Rugby then settled into their normal control of the game. Despite some sustained possession and excellent team work by Rugby Town, the counter attacking style of Sileby proved challenging for Rugby.
From the first kick in the second half, Rugby Town seemed to fire up immediately and passed and controlled the ball very well for large periods. However, the effective counter attacking style of Sileby supported by strong defensive allowed them to maintain their advantage.
Overall this was a very entertaining end to end game of football. The girls carried on building on strong team play, work ethic and effective passing style, linked to some well very positive football and defensive play.
POM: Alexis, for strong forward positive runs and effort throughout the match.
PPOM: Izzy, for her hard work and numerous last minute critical 1-to-1 tackles in defence.
