This weekend we had the delight of welcoming Mawsley again to Butlin Road. A full squad was available and Erin made her debut in goal. Despite the usual unfortunate atmosphere that soon materialised, the girls put in a battling display, and took the lead in the first half, a lovely run into the box from Afua brushing aside the defender and slotting home. After that Mawsley asserted themselves and equalised soon after, and then made it 2-1 before the break.
In the second half the girls plugged away and pushed hard for an equaliser, but after 5 minutes Mawsley scored again. Despite previous games when heads went down and the scoreline ballooned, this time the girls continued to push on and did themselves proud. Mawsley scored again to make it 4-1 but a few half chances were spurned along the way, and the girls matched them in spirit and determination.
A good all-round performance from the girls, lots of positives in terms of effort and determination, but lots to work on in training too.
And many thanks to Jacquie up at the Rugby Town FC clubhouse for hosting the girls after the match for well-deserved food and chat!
