Sunday 19th September
Squad: Liv, Annabelle, Anya, Chloe, Freya, Jasmine, Olivia, Ruby, Sophia
Sponsor: Inspiron
Second away game of the season and a trip to Haunchwood for 11:30 on a Sunday, much easier parking this week with plenty of spaces just off Phil Collins Way. The weather wasn’t brilliant first thing in the morning but by kick off it was bright sunshine.
Rugby had a full squad available for the game with Liv returning in goal which was a real boost for the team.
Haunchwood started off the game well and created the first chance which required a good save from Liv. There were then chances at both ends before Chloe broke the deadlock with a well taken goal. Rugby started to get more into the game and created a couple more chances with Ruby and Sophia having shots on goal.
The Haunchwood goalkeeper had a very long kick which did cause Rugby some problems but Freya was excellent in defence with some great tackles and clearances each time the ball was in the Rugby half. Sophia then put in a great cross and Rugby were unlucky not to score.
Simon and Brett then started to make use of their substitutes to give the girls a rest. Anya had a shot that was just wide and Chloe hit the post after a good run from Jasmine. Rugby started to play really well and it wasn’t long before the hard work paid off. Jasmine got the ball and went past a couple of players and then scored from outside of the area with her left foot. Rugby didn’t have it all their own way, just before half time Haunchwood had a good run forward and were unlucky not to score.
Into the second half and Haunchwood started very well but Rugby also created some chances. Anya had a good shot that was just wide and Jasmine had a shot saved by the goalkeeper.
Haunchwood continued to keep up the pressure and forced a series of corners that were well defended by Rugby, Annabelle, Freya and Olivia all made good clearances. Liv then had to make another good save but eventually Haunchwood scored from a cross after a scramble in the goalmouth.
The second half continued with chances at both ends. The Rugby defence doing really well to keep Haunchwood from scoring. The Haunchwood goalkeeper also made some good saves to prevent Chloe and Sophia from scoring.
Rugby should again be really proud of the way they played against a decent team. They are improving every week and really developing an exciting style of play but also developing as strong defensive unit.
Player of the match – Liv
Thanks to Simon & Brett for their coaching during the game, to Haunchwood for a great game and to all the parents for their support.
