Today saw our U9s travel the long distance to Asfordby for their first away game of the season, with it being an 11:30 KO it meant we could have a little more of a lie in!! although with the rain it wasn’t too enjoyable.
Rugby started out with a 2-1-1 formation which worked out well for us as from the off we were the more dominant side. However, it did take Rugby a few minutes to settle down as we had to wear bibs today because of matching kits with the opposition.
Norah started upfront today and after not playing this position for a while she did a fantastic job of chasing the ball down and using her strength to win the ball. Norah also went in goal for the second half and wasn’t to impressed that she didn’t get any “action” despite me trying to explain to her it was a good thing. Norah was very confident both upfront and in goal today.
Ellie Parra or should I say Ellie Power, she was on fire today. Ellie started off in defence but naturally gravitated upfront which to Rugby’s delight helped us to be successful for the first time today. Not long after this Asfordby made the game level again. Ellie didn’t stop running for the whole game and helped put Rugby on the front foot once more. Multiple times throughout the second half Ellie caused some real trouble for Asfordby’s defenders and goalkeeper.
Olivia started in goal today and put her goalkeeper training to good use. Her confidence had increased a lot since last week after doing some goalkeeper training on Friday. Olivia helped out Norah upfront with her big goal kicks right to the other end if the field. For the second half Liv went up front for a while and contributed to Rugby’s successful day. She then dropped back into defence to make some mega tackles before coming off for a rest.
Bella had her turn upfront, midfield AND defence today and played really well in all positions although was delighted when I put her into midfield. Bella made some brilliant runs with the ball and some crucial tackles. She made a great run from defence up the pitch but when panicked when she realised it was 1v1 against her and the goalkeeper.
Jesmin had the honour of being captain today as she was star of the week on Friday. Jesmin went in defence today and had a very brave and confident performance. She was putting in big tackles to deny any attackers, she also put our clearance training into practice and got the ball up the pitch well.
Poppy played in defence today and put out a brilliant performance. She did so well at chasing down the ball and pushing the players out wide. She also came today to tackle and that’s what she did, she was making tackles left right and centre.
Millie played in her favoured midfield today and as usual ran her socks off. She didn’t give up and chased down every ball and made some brilliant runs. She also got herself out of some difficult situations when surrounded but 4 outfield opposition players. Millie worked hard first and second half and came off for a well deserved rest.
My message to the girls today was be brave and use strength and that’s exactly what they did.
Managers player – Poppy for none stop work in defence and making some fab tackles
Parents player – Ellie for some brilliant work in defence and upfront to ensure Rugby’s success.
