Our U8 Wildcats travelled to Coalville Town for a 10:30 kickoff, on what turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day for football. The Wildcats were pumped and ready for an exciting match against the Ravenettes.
The match started off with loads of energy from both teams. Connie and Meredith up front with lots of speed and aggressive attacking, while Emilia and Ellie kept a strong defensive wall in the back, along with Phoebe in goal for our last line of defense. The first quarter was pretty evenly matched as both teams went back and forth showing great intensity. With concentrated focus, Phoebe saved every shot that Coalville sent her way. In the second quarter, Lily came onto the pitch and showed great enthusiasm. She and Meredith displayed great teamwork moving the ball forward and putting a ton of pressure on Coalville’s defense.
Rugby Town continued to cover and tackle against a strong attacking opposition, rarely allowing anyone to breach the defenses. In the third quarter, the girls were still covering and challenging with the same intensity we saw in the first half. And by the fourth quarter, though showing signs of tired legs, each Wildcat managed to keep the pace, and with a fantastic pass from Meredith, Ellie was able to fire a cannonball which breached the opposition’s defenses. A brilliant finish to long, hard fought match against an equally tough opponent.
Throughout the game, each player showed immense resilience. Phoebe making some brilliant saves and focused goal kicks, is showing more confidence and experience with every match. Emilia exhibited fantastic tackling, clearing nearly every ball that came her way. Ellie performed marvelous footwork, moving the ball away from Coalville’s attackers and up to Rugby Town’s offense. Connie showed immense enthusiasm on the pitch, moving to the ball quickly and interrupting the opposition’s passing. Meredith fought tirelessly as usual, challenging every play in the midfield and putting forth intense attacks. Lily performed with passion, putting a ton of pressure on the opposing defense, and had a smashing save while taking turn in goal.
Superb effort from Rugby Town U8 Wildcats. Thanks to the Ravenettes for a thrilling match!
Player of the Match: Ellie – for her unceasing effort, focused tackling in defense, fortitude and overall smashing performance for her first match.
