Thurlaston Lionesses vs. Rugby Town Girls U8 Lionesses

U8 Lionesses travelled over to Thurlaston again today to play a friendly against last week’s opposition Thurlaston Lionesses.  Both teams played so well ending the game in a 9-goal thriller.

Rugby played so well through the whole game holding their positions well, the girls made sure that they attacked strong form the start and denied Thurlaston’s powerful shots over and over again, unfortunately Thurlaston managed to break down our strong defence and goal keeper. Although this could’ve lead to rugby letting their heads drop this made them more determined to keep battling. The girls went into half time very keen to crack on with the rest of the match.

The second half was totally different for Rugby. With us having kick off we started on the front foot which we used to our advantage pressing on a solid Thurlaston defence but could not yet become successful. Our midfield showed off some fantastic dribbling skills getting past multiple players. Rugby began to tire quickly so after a few changes and girls swapping positions we were ready to go again. Some great goal kicks made for some good chances for Rugby’s midfield and striker.

After some good link up play Rugby were on the score board. At this moment the game was going end to end. As soon as one team had a success attack the other team did the exact same thing. Rugby become successful right towards the end after a quick throw-in to our striker to put it in the back of the net. Overall every single player on that pitch really did themselves proud today. If only there was an extra 5 minutes of football the score line could’ve been completely different.

Parents player this week: Molly – Molly had a fantastic game this week and was very solid for us in defence denying Thurlaston’s strikers. Molly also had a go in midfield today and showed off her strength well.

Managers player: Esme – Esme played the best game she’s ever had today; she was switched on the whole time and made some great tackles.  Esme also made some great plays forward getting the ball up the pitch.

Special thanks to Ellie for stepping up to ref the game last minute, she did a fantastic job.

Also thanks to Thurlaston for hosting and giving us a great match, a very welcoming club.
