Rugby Town Girls U8 Wildcats vs. Thurlaston Warriors

Team: Lily, Isla, Connie, Pheobe, Emilia

Superb showing for the Wildcats first league match!  The weather was sunny and perfect for football. The players were enthusiastic at the start of the match, eager to get going.  For the first half, Isla and Lily started in defence, and had many tackles and disruptions to a strong Thurlaston offense. Pheobe, our goalkeeper, started off with a brilliant save, stopping Thurlaston’s first shot on goal.  Emilia and Connie playing offense, did their best trying to move the ball up the field. Lily had some amazing throw ins up the sideline, giving Emilia and Connie a chance to gain more field advantage.

The second half had a position change up, with Emilia and Connie in defense, and Isla and Lily in attack. This proved good, as Emilia’s and Connie’s tackling held off many Thurlaston attacks.  After one Thurlaston attack, Rugby immediately countered, with Lily dribbling straight up the middle and taking a shot, which was unlucky and picked up by the opposition’s keeper.  Pheobe continued to work hard in goal, picking up loose balls in the box and taking great goal kicks throughout the match.  Despite showing signs of tiredness, all the players continued to run after every ball, and fight until the very end. Well done to everyone on their first official match!

Manager’s Player was Emilia, for her consistent tackling and always running back to defend.

Parents’ Player was Pheobe, for her enthusiasm and attitude, amazing saves and goal kicks, and keeping her chin up throughout the entire match.
