Kingsthorpe Jets vs. Rugby Town Girls U12 Lionesses

Our Under 12 Lionesses were in Northampton League action on Saturday, facing a touch trip away to Kingsthorpe Jets. Most of this team is made up of U11 girls, playing an age group up; it’s a great chance for them to test their skills in the top division against girls a year older whilst navigating new rules, bigger goals/pitches and competitive football for the first time.

Kingsthorpe set up in a defensive formation, clearly trying not to concede and it took a huge effort to break them down. It was mainly one way traffic in the first half with Rugby playing the better football, and the girls were rewarded with a well taken goal by Lexie before the break.

The second half proved to be more of the same as Rugby pushed forward looking to put the game beyond Kingsthorpe; but they also looked assured and resolute at the back, bravely chasing every ball to keep the opposition at bay. Aurora was rewarded for her persistent determination and quick reactions as she created a chance for herself and finished smoothly.

It was fantastic to see the girls so organised from set pieces we’ve been working on in training, with everyone knowing their role and communicating effectively. Rugby continued to create chances and put the game beyond doubt with a fine finish from Lexie from the edge of the box after a fantastic team passing move. On another day it could have been many more as the girls showed great creativity in the final third whilst never looking like conceding.

Coaches Players of the Match:

Lexie put in a complete performance in central midfield, getting from box to box whilst finishing clinically to break the deadlock.

Ruby V has slotted effortlessly into the heart of the Lionesses defence and is always a calm presence, showing confidence on the ball and clearing the danger effectively.

Huge thanks to Will for running the line and to all our parents for your commitment and continued support. It was a confident performance from a very talented bunch of girls, a well deserved clean sheet and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves!
