Two weeks is a long time in football and over to our home fixture as part of our second match on the big lower astro pitch at Butlin Road. We knew this was not going go be easy game, especially after winning away and it was of no surprise that Whetstone came fired up.
From the kick off both teams set to work and it was a real even match of two hardworking teams working incredibly hard to create and open up chances. Despite this, the match was mainly a defensive and midfield battle, only matched by the Rugby and Whetstone equal energy and work rate!
As the fist half ended both team left the field with honours even, to the point this was feeling like being a nil-nil draw. As the second half kicked off, the efforts from the last game and the first half of the home match seemed to dip, which changed the dynamic of the game for the first time.
Whetstone produced a period of 4 quick goals, with some excellent team play, that Rugby just could not answer. Despite a last period resurgence from the Rugby Town girls, unfortunately a clear goal opportunity seemed lacking for a change.
As the game ended, the Rugby girls can be very proud of what they achieved in this double fixture. A mix of some excellent football, hardworking displays and learning as the team blends well together more and more as we play each game. A call out to some excellent individual displays throughout the team as well as an additional highlight.
Rugby Town 0-4
