Rugby Town U12 had their second away match of the 24/25 against Thurmaston Magpies U12 Storm. With Warwickshire holding their 11+ exams this weekend, we had a few players unavailable, however, our large squad size still allowed for a full team plus a few substitutes. (Hoping all our test takers had a successful day). The weather was overcast, but still mild, as Rugby Town warmed up for what would be a challenging match against Thurmaston.
Rugby Town started with a strong display, attacking quickly, and scoring first with a finish from Holly. Thurmaston, pressing quickly and demonstrating impressive organisation and physical strength, managed to even the scoreline, despite the hard work from the Rugby Town defense. Another goal for Thurmaston was not far behind, followed by a third. This Rugby Town team, however, is known for not letting heads drop, and continued to fight for every free ball, and focused on making simple passes and not panicking under pressure. This led to another Rugby Town goal from Emy-Mae, in her first appearance this season.
HT: 3-2
The second half became a battle of strength, seeing players from both teams often shoulder to shoulder, fighting to maintain possession. Rugby Town GK, Norah, put in an excellent shift, making the necessary saves to keep the deficit to one. Although Rugby Town was unable to gain another equaliser, they managed to keep the second half to 0-0. While not necessarily known for their physical strength, Rugby Town’s tactical sense and “never give up” attitude really showed how determined and skilful this team can be when everyone works together as a team.
