First Half

The game started in a physical manner and there was much back and forth in the play.  Neither side had many chances although Bewdley did generate a couple of 1v1 opportunities with the Rugby keeper, but they couldn’t convert.

Rugby had one free kick awarded at a promising distance but unfortunately the shot was blasted over the crossbar.  As the half progressed, Kelsey and Grace started to connect well and tested the Bewdley defence and keeper.

Second Half

The game was now really heating up and becoming quite fiery and both sides were working hard to break the deadlock. Rough tackles were mounting up and free and several free kicks were awarded to both teams.

Grace took a heavy ball to the face and despite continuing after treatment, she needed to replaced after a couple of minutes.

Grace <-> Zoe

Kelly, Katie and Kelsey teamed up and finally found the chink in the Bewdley armour, allowing Kelsey to tap the ball into the right-hand side of the net after a goalmouth melee.

Ellie <-> Laura C

Both sides continued their battle as the clock ticked down and there were significant stoppages in play as players from both Rugby and Bewdley required treatment due to the physicality of the game.

In the dying minutes of stoppage time, Bewdley were awarded a penalty for a handball in the Rugby 18-yard box which they converted to draw level and send the game to penalties to decide who would progress to the semi-finals.

5 brave Rugby players stepped forward to take the penalties, but alas, it was not to be, and Rugby bowed out of the division 1 cup.
