The Sunday match for Rugby Town meant a very, very early start and long drive as we all headed north and crossed over into Derbyshire for a 9am start.
At that point we all knew that Rugby had a tough test ahead, against strong opposition in the form of Albert Village Tigermoths.
From the kick off, space was tight as Albert Village pressed and clamped down on Rugby Town u10’s making the game difficult to find space and time on a heavy going pitch, that had equal amounts of mud and grass! Despite this the Rugby Town girls never gave up and worked hard as individuals to try and overcome the challenge. Maybe with more collective buy-in they might have had more success but unfortunately during the game they seemed to struggle against a well drilled and organised team.
On reflection the match should act as a good learning curve after so a positive start this season. Highlighting the value of training, team work, good passing and positional play. Especially when faced against strong opponents in tricky conditions. But let’s not mention the early start again!!
POM: Emy-Mae, for strong a defensive performance and overall e2e effort
PPOM: Alexis, for good goalkeeping and battling outfield play until the end,.
