Tim was absent today, Learna says he was away with the army getting some training in for the paintballing day, so not quite the ‘war and peace’ report you have become accustomed to, but I will do my best.
Today was a frosty start seeing the girls host Ashby Ivanhoe girls (also our opponents away next week) who had managed one win and two draws so far. They had however scored in every game they’d played.
We started with a similar line up to the previous game with two players drafted into the starting lineup, due to excellent work and effort during recent training sessions. The girls took a while to warm into the game with a tentative first ten minutes, possibly, showing a bit of game rustiness having not played for several weeks.
However, after about 15 minutes the girl’s persistence paid off and the scoring was opened with a Hollie assist for Sofia to open our account for the day. Chloe was then picked out nicely by Bailey for number two, and Adi’s persistence and hard work paid off when she found Chloe to slot in for 3-0.
Half time arrived and the 3-0 cushion allowed for multiple changes and position switches to allow the girls a taste of different roles, hopefully benefiting them if the need ever arises for unplanned changes during games.
The second half started more brightly, and Jess worked hard down the left wing starting a great move with Adi setting up Bailey for a cool finish, 4-0. Bailey then turned provider again to allow Sofia to score her second. Grace played through to Sophie who played a well struck shot past the keeper to see the tally hit 6!
Adi went back on, with the encouragement from the coaches ringing in her ears, that she’d done everything bar score. Within minutes, Cara who had dropped back to a role as centre back played a through ball to Adi to allow her to grab her first, I would guess, of many goals for the team. Sofia took a free kick to score an absolute belter, and then Adi ran onto a super pass from Cara to slot her second.
At times the coaches thought we were not excelling as a team, but, I think it just shows what high standards we have come to expect from this team. A clean sheet was an added bonus and we had a 9-0 victory. Multiple substitutions with players out of normal roles, I think we can all agree that was a good day at the office. Well done girls. The hard work is certainly paying off.

Thanks to Tristan for running the line and the loud cheers from the hill, as always. The referee was superb also.
