On a cold and damp Sunday, Rugby had the pleasure of hosting Mountsorrell – a familiar opponent given the reverse fixture was played last week. With a few absences through illness and injury, Rugby had a squad of 7; Ada, Charlotte, Sophie, Flossie, Primrose, Maisie B and Imogen. The game was played across 2 halves and was superbly refereed by Ellie.
Ada and Flossie took turns to play in goal, both displaying impressive positional awareness and bravery throughout. The game was an incredibly enjoyable one to watch with Rugby pressing hard from start to finish. All of the girls worked well together, creating lots of chances and covering defence when needed. Sophie and Maisie B were a constant attacking threat during the first half, ably supported by Flossie and Primrose who both were brilliant in defence and linked up play well.
During the second half Imogen and Ada joined Sophie with some lovely attacking runs. Charlotte showed great positional awareness during the first half and made some important blocks in the second half whilst defending. Primrose and Maisie B also battled well and picked out great passes when afforded the opportunity.
A fantastic effort today from all of the girls, particularly given the cold and wet conditions. The team continue to develop and importantly, clearly enjoy their football! Onwards and upwards to the next match!
