The temperatures are beginning to drop, making for a chilly start away at Dunton & Broughton on one of the few dry pitches in the county.
Rugby Town, having warmed up with their rondo, were ready to kick off against an equally eager opponent. The first half, however, didn’t begin with quite as much enthusiasm as the warm-up, with D&B starting strong with tight passing and link-up play that caught Rugby on their heels for at least the first 5-10 minutes.
However, once we started to settle into the game, albeit, later than usual, the girls began to move the ball more efficiently, turning a corner into an evenly battled match. The half ended after numerous elements of strong possession.
The second half started much stronger than the first, but still saw D&B gaining an advantage with sharp control and better communication. A half-time pep talk that suggested tighter marking was taken onboard, as Rugby was able to slow the opposition and make them work harder to penetrate the strong Rugby defense. There was no lack of effort, with everyone battling until the final whistle.
Managers Players: Khadeejah and Lydia for contributing energy, skill, and effort to the team’s performance. Parents Player: Esme, for outstanding outfield performance in both left-wing and left-back, as well as improving skill and bravery in goal.
