Rugby Town u11s v Ashby Ivanhoe. Sunday 29th October
Sponsors: Purely Mortgages and Life Investments Estate Agents
Squad: Norah, Olivia, Poppy, Emma, Bella, Sophie, Gracie, Izzy
Rugby welcomed Ashby Ivanhoe on a bright sunny morning. Rugby started with Norah in goal, Emma and Poppy in defence, Izzy, Olivia and Gracie across midfield and Sophie furthest forward.
It was clear from the outset this would be a close encounter with both sides well matched across the pitch. Rugby worked well as a team to defend strongly and limit the opposition’s chances. Poppy and Emma communicated well to ensure no players were left unmarked
A change upfront saw Bella replace Sophie. Bella quickly got into the game and was being found well by Olivia to create chances that worried the away ‘keeper. As the half continued, Rugby grew in confidence on the ball and created some good passing play.
In the second half, Rugby kept swapping positions and making subs to keep the team fresh. Gracie and Izzy were working really hard on the wings to provide forward passes when in possession as well as retreat and defend when we lost the ball. Ashby pushed hard in the second half but Rugby continued to defend doggedly right to the final whistle. Norah showed good awareness in goal and was distributing the ball well. While defending hard, Rugby stayed alert for the chance of a counter attack and Sophie, Bella and Izzy worked well together to create some exciting breaks.
A really enjoyable game of football. We’d like to thank Ashby Ivanhoe who played very strongly and helped to make the game so good to watch. Thank you to all who came to support.
PPOM: Poppy; defended solidly throughout showing good leadership and positioning and composure
CPOM: Emma; also defended excellently. Showed great discipline in her positioning and made excellent decisions throughout the game.
