Dunton and Broughton Girls v Rugby Town Girls Under 8s Lionesses

The girls made their first venture into Leicestershire on Sunday for an away match v Dunton and Broughton. It was an early start with a 9.30 am kick-off on a good size Astro pitch. They all turned up eager to play and joined in a kickaround while everyone got ready. With 9 players and 20 minutes each way, we have to drain their batteries somehow.
Now toughest job of the day, select a keeper!! Mary Earps has something to answer for, most teams struggle to find a keeper, this team had 6 today, for 1 position, we used 4 this week in the match, rotating them but ensuring they got good practice in the game. Heidi started, followed by Amelia, then Charlotte, and finished the match with Ariya.
The football level was good to see from coaching sessions, the pitch allowed the girls to show training skills individually and in passing as a team which is getting better every week they play. Mia’s composure on the ball is brilliant, Aaliyah’s speed and use of both feet, Liyanah’s ability to dribble around people, and Lorna’s understanding of the game.
The girls making great progress in the league in their first season, and above all, we are all still smiling😊, Well Done Girls!!
On to new opposition next week when we welcome Epworth Girls to our home pitch for a 10.30 a.m. kick-off.
