Another early start and venture up the M1, this weeks’ opposition were Coalville Town Ravens U8’s. Rugby knew this would be a tough match having welcomed Coalville to Butlin Road only 2 weeks ago.
This weeks squad were Paige, Flossie, Primrose, Maisie F, Maisie B, Imogen, Sophie. As always the girls were smiling and looking forward to the challenge.
In the 1st quarter Rugby started with Paige in goal, Flossie at the back, Maisie F and Primrose in the middle and Sophie as striker. Both teams were strong on the attack but equally just as resilient in defence, a number of fine interceptions and tackles from Flossie were impressive, as was an excellent performance from Paige in goal. Maisie F and Primrose were once again proving a dynamic duo and worked non-stop to defend and then create our own chances going forward. Rugby are always a danger to the opposition with Sophie up front and the girls showed great awareness to try and get the ball up to her as much we could.
In the 2nd quarter Primrose made way for Imogen, whilst Maisie F made way for Maisie B. Sophie was very brave early into the quarter having received a minor injury, as a result changes were made again with Maisie F re-entering the field. Again, a very evenly balanced quarter. Maisie B showed great strength driving forward with the ball into the Coalville half.
In the 3rd quarter Paige came onto the pitch and was replaced by Maisie B in goal. Paige immediately showed her enthusiasm and was keen to get on the ball early. There were a number of really impressive bursts forward, firstly by Imogen and then two wonderful runs down the line by Primrose.
Into quarter 4 and the game was finely balanced, a number of changes from Rugby kept the team fresh and this quarter’s goal-keeper Maisie F was performing heroics. Flossie’s non-stop running and Sophie’s impressive skills and dribbles always kept Rugby in the game, at the final whistle it was all smiles and laughs and the pulsating encounter was enjoyed by all.
