A return to Butlin road for the Tigresses and a lunchtime kick off this week after their successful away trip to Market Bosworth the week before. With 2 wins from 2 so far in the league and zero goals conceded, Rugby were hoping to keep their impressive start to the season going against Anstey Nomads.
Rugby kicked off and immediately went looking for a goal with a good early cross from Leila. The midfield was competitive and some big tackles started to go in and Rugby knew that they were going to be in a physical contest today. Anstey then had a good run forward which demonstrated their attacking prowess.
Rugby were getting more into the game and a cross from Sophie resulted in a shot from Leila hitting the post. Erin then had a good run forward to win the first corner for Rugby. It wasn’t all one-way traffic as Megan had to make a good save from the Anstey forward but soon after Leila had a shot that was well saved by the Anstey keeper.
From the next corner, Bianca had a shot that just went over, it was clear that Rugby were getting closer to breaking the deadlock with wave after wave of attacks. Leila was then successful with a good finish to make it 1-0 to Rugby. The first goal prompted some fresh legs from the bench and Bianca then had another shot that went wide.
Shortly after a nice passing move involving 4 players resulted in another good finish from Leila to make it 2-0. Rugby were cruising but Anstey were not out of it and then had a good cross that was well defended by Rugby. Jasmine then got into a good shooting position but couldn’t get the ball out of her feet onto her left foot with the ball going straight at the keeper.
Rugby had to keep up the pressure and were then successful with a long kick from Megan which went to Leila who finished well to make it 3 -0.
Half Time 3-0
Into the second half and Louise had a good, marauding run forward that nearly resulted in a goal, all of the parents hoping that she would get a goal. One of the Anstey forwards then showed great strength to run through the Rugby defence to make it 3-1 with the ball going in off the post.
The comeback didn’t last long as after a cross from Leila that resulted in a slight fumble by the Anstey keeper Louise came storming through to finish well to make it 4-1.
Anstey didn’t give up and were still dangerous going forward and had a corner that was cleared well by Amelia. Another good run from Leila and then Ronniee had a shot that went just wide. Rugby were looking for more goals and definitely didn’t want to sit back and protect their lead. Another move between Leila and Jasmine resulted in a right foot shot that went just wide.
The inevitable 5th goal came after a good run down the wing from Macey resulted in a cross to Leila who finished well. Rugby kept going and were looking for more goals. Louise and Leila had shots that went wide and another that was well saved by the Anstey keeper.
Full Time 5-1
Coaches player Daisy-May, did her job so well and ran her socks off all game.
Thanks to Dave and Dave for all their support during the match. Thanks to Anstey for a great game played in the right spirit, the referee (who definitely did spot the three handballs by Louise!) and the two linesmen.
