Rugby Towns U10’s second away game is played on grass on a very, very wet Sunday morning. The girls due to the conditions and waiting for the match to finish had limited warmup time but this did not stop them from producing one of the most hardworking and entertaining displays since they have formed as a U10, 7 aside team. Stoke Golding was an equally hardworking and strong team which meant that the girls had to work hard throughout the match against a backdrop of relentlessness driving rain.
Despite a very equal opening initial period, Rugby started to grip and gain control of the game, building from the back and midfield with some exceptional football that constantly pushed the ball forward into the final third. With the Rugby girls displaying high energy, and pressing football at every moment, they pushed hard on the home team with an effective and energetic free-flowing attacking style.
With some slight changes in positions, the team started the second half in the same positive fashion, with some excellent wide play and nice passing to feet from the back and the middle to the wings with real zip and zap! Despite this, the home team still pushed hard on the Town goal throughout the second half and required some excellent last-minute defending and goalkeeping throughout. At the end of the game and despite the weather conditions the girls left the pitch all with big smiles. They had also given the parents and the coach the best and most enjoyable match so far. The biggest highlight was the feeling of a real team effort from each of the players with passing and team spirit at the top of the agenda. Such was the overall performance the parents decided to give the parent player to the whole team and all that remained was to get home and get dry. To sum up this match and performance was a perfect tonic for the weather conditions.
