Match Report:
Rugby Towns U10’s first home game playing on the bottom pitch for the first time. The team has now, well and truly started its transition to playing 7 aside, on larger pitches, with new formations positions, and tactics.
The game opened with few options but for each player to play the whole game as we had no substitutions available. The girls stood up to this challenge and really put in a shift, with an entertaining full-action display for the parents and coach. Despite some early strength from the opposition, Rugby Town bounced back immediately and built up power and momentum from the back.
This was required against a hardworking Jaguars team who ensured space was at a minimum throughout the first half. During this initial period, Rugby Town struggled to break through and unlock the hardworking Jaguars defensive and midfield line. This also resulted in the team working hard to defend against the effective Boroughruns, which always produced a threat, requiring some critical goalkeeping and defending. Despite this, the Town girls managed to end the half with confidence and composure, as a result, of effective passing and attacking football as we started to step up the play.
In a similar way to last week, Rugby Town came roaring out of the blocks in the second half and played some of the best football of the game, moving and sweeping play into the attacking half with some exceptional free-flowing football.
The movement and passing were excellent and the momentum and excitement built by the second with Rugby working the ball forward with some great finesse. The whole team put in an incredible shift with every player understanding the impact of team play and working for each other. This was probably the best 7 aside performance to date and now it’s time to build on this hardworking display with passing and teamwork at its core.
POM: Alexis, for her improved confidence dribbling in 1v1 situations, and strong battling for possession.
PPOM: Annalise had a hardworking display and grew in confidence throughout the game with some effective fast battling runs in the attacking half.
