With autumn getting started, the girls travelled north toBlaby and Whetstone, and whilst the weather looked a bit miserable, the girls looked fantastic in their new purple away kit (big thanks to Kelsey Living!). The team was Sophie, Paige, Phoebe, Imogen, Primrose, Flossie, Maisie F, Charlotte and Ada.

The match started with Phoebe, Primrose, Ada and Maisie, with Paige in goal. Right from the start the team were full of drive and energy and was thinking about their passes and movement.  Phoebe and Ada were marking really well and making some excellent tackles.
Ada was a solid defender with Maisie and Phoebe working together well in midfield. Prim also showed us just how far she can deliver throw-in, as well as coming back for thoughtful support when the opposition pressed.  A great performance by Paige as well, but the opposition showed how strong a team they were.  By the end of the first period the girls were settling in and the match was shaping up to be a good one.
A full team change for the second period of Imogen, Floss, Charlotte and Sophie with Maisie taking a turn in goal.  Flossie got stuck straight in covering both midfield and being an absolutely unrelenting defender, whilst Sophie and Charlotte made an impressive up-front combo, with skilful attacks that wrong-footed their defence a number of times. Charlotte also made a long run along the side-line, using excellent footwork to keep the ball in whilst being chased by the other team.  Imogen took the game to the opposition and was putting constant pressure on, winning the ball often.

By this point Rugby were really going from strength to strength, pushing hard against opposition defenders and making their keeper do a lot of work. Maisie also worked hard and delivered a fine performance in goal, a position she is new to.

By half-time, it was clear this was shaping up to be one of the most exciting games the girls have played. The cheering parents were starting to wonder how on earth they could choose a player for the match!

The third period saw Primrose working hard in defence, showing her usual determination and speed, whilst Paige came into her own in midfield. The wind and rain (that fine rain that soaks you through) was getting worse but no-one noticed as the pace of the game kept going up and up. Ada supported with a solid defence whilst Phoebe continued to develop her tackling and dribbling skills.

More changes for the 4th period meant all the girls had ample opportunity to show what they could do, with Primrose taking turns in goal.  Both teams were clearly hungry to get the upper hand in what was a very even match.

Maisie was particularly impressive in defence. Her coverage and pressure were giving the opposition a tough time. Charlotte made another fantastic run with the ball, working alongside Sophie who was blowing everyone away with her skills. Imogen and Floss made some fantastic tackles and Primrose made a brilliant save.  The action was going back and forth and when the final whistle blew, nobody wanted the game to end as it was so enjoyable.

An incredible show of strength, skill and determination by all of the girls.

They should all be incredibly proud of themselves.
