Team Sponsor: Hamilton Medical and Life Investment Estate Agents
Squad: Esme, Sienna W., Emilia, Emy-Mae, Eve, Sienna M., Izzy

Our first match in the 23/24 season found our U10s playing away at Asfordby. The temperature was a scorcher, and with no subs, the opposition offered to play 6v6 so we could have a rolling sub. The grass pitch was short, with a slight slope, and Rugby Town found themselves working uphill for the first half. The uphill battle along with the heat made for a challenging 25 minutes, but the girls didn’t waiver or slow down. Battles were fought in the Rugby half, with Emilia and Izzy tackling and moving the ball forward to midfielders, Sienna M., Emy-Mae, and Sienna W. Eve was subbed for Emy-Mae halfway through the first half, brining fresh legs and energy that Rugby Town needed.

Second half we now had the downhill advantage, which Rugby Town utilised to put pressure on the Asfordby defence. Sienna M. now taking a rest to allow Eve back on the pitch in left wing, and Emy-Mae swapping with Emilia in defence, Rugby Town demonstrated the versatility in positioning, with many girls being able to do well in different roles. Fortunately for the coach, this makes substitutions much easier. At the whistle end, it was a great first match in the new season, with end to end battling for possession, smooth link up play, and well deserved sweets at the end.

POM: Eve, for her boundless effort, tackling, and improved positioning.

PPOM: Emilia, for overall effort and strength in her performance on the pitch.
