For the second Sunday in a row, the last blast of the summer weather made for another hot and sunny match, this time away to East Goscote FC in Leicester.

Fortunately, Rugby was able to take advantage of the good-sized squad of Ada, Charlotte, Flossie, Primrose, Phoebe, Sophie, MaisieF, Imogen and Paige.

The starting line-up was Charlotte, Primrose, Maisie, Flossie, and Sophie with Paige in goal, and from the first whistle, it was clear this was going to be a very even match. Both teams started strong out of the gate, determined to show what they could do. Birthday girl Sophie got stuck in with some great footwork and strong tacking, whilst Primrose demonstrated how to run the full length of mid-field in lightning speed.

Ada came on to join Charlotte in defense, making a solid that caused a lot of frustration to the opposition, who had a very fast and skilled player up-front. Paige provided a strong performance in goal.

The second period saw Phoebe and Imogen in midfield, putting constant pressure on the opponents with good runs and tackling. It was clear the team was putting into practice the skills from training, such as a nice drag-back by Phoebe, and thoughtful passing by Maisie.

The second half saw Paige swapped out for Flossie in goal. Flossie showed just how fearless she was, and how well she read the game and anticipated where the ball was coming.  Paige had a chance to show how determined she can be in midfield.

Sophie, Primrose, and Maisie all made some fantastic runs. Both sides were determined to show how much they wanted it, and strong defending was necessary from Ada, and tackling from Phoebe, Imogen, and Charlotte to keep the opponents at bay.

Cloud cover rolled in at the 4th period, and the respite from the sun and a few more substitutions meant the energy levels went up and there was even more excitement towards the end of the match. The girls did really well listening to the instructions from the coaches.

After the game, the girls had a friendly penalty shootout, followed by some much-needed ice pops.
