Match Report:
A damp morning in Burbage greeted both teams as we faced FC Burbage U9 Rojo for the third time in nearly as many weeks. It was agreed to play the game over 4 x 10 min periods.
Playing on a tight and heavy grass pitch linked to playing 6 aside ensured a very tight match that was a defensive stronghold on both sides. This resulted in limited opportunities throughout the game for Rugby and Rojo which was uncharacteristic for the Town U9’s who normally play with such an attacking and open drive. As the game progressed midfield play dominated the match with balls being hotly contested by all players with some excellent tackling and strong play being demonstrated. With the numbers on the pitch space was always going to be limited and play was tight. The keepers were involved and played with confidence and bravery.
The game ended as it started which was a fair reflection in an entertaining “chess match of a game” with both sets of players working extremely hard on a muddy and slow paced pitch. I think it’s fair to reflect that this impacted on our normal free flowing style but was equally good learning and a different test for the players. And Burbage Rojo, as usual, a positive and challenging opposition.
1st POM: Izzy, for her serious hard work, defensive strength, and taking initiative to press forward into space and follow with precision passes to our forwards.
2nd POM: Alexis, for bravery in goal, coming out to shut down the angles on 1v1 attacks and taking charge of the goal box.
PPOM: Emy-Mae For her constant energy and strength throughout the game that made a real difference.
