In their first game of the new year, Rugby faced new opposition after switching back to the U7 league from the U8 league.  Against the backdrop of a crisp, sunny day, Rugby had a full squad and the girls arrived full of energy and enthusiasm. Today’s game was played across two 20 minute halves.

Rugby started the game with Flossy as goalkeeper, Charlotte in defence, Primrose and Maisie B in midfield with Sophie as striker.  All girls interacted well and given that Rugby had a full squad, this allowed plenty of rotations throughout the game to rest weary legs.  The introduction of Imogen, Maisie F, Ada, Lorna and Paige into the game was often seamless.

Some highlights from the match included, and in no particular order:

  • Some brilliant goalkeeping by Paige who demonstrated lots of bravery
  • Great positional awareness by Charlotte when defending, coupled with some robust tackling when needed.
  • Endless energy and tenacity by Flossie
  • Some great tackling and pressing runs by Maisie B who once again showed her boundless energy
  • Strong determination by Imogen when defending demonstrated by some robust tackling.
  • Great attacking runs by Sophie
  • Excellent positional play by Primrose, particularly in midfield and linking play effectively.
  • Lorna defending very well and neutralising a number of the opponent’s attacks.
  • Some excellent attacking runs and link up play by Maisie F
  • Ada showing good positional awareness in midfield resulting in her making some important tackles and dribbling well when afforded the opportunity.

Rugby continued their high energy and kept going until the very end.  Overall, a great match and a very enjoyable one to watch.

Coaches’ player of the match went to Charlotte for her positional awareness and brilliant defending, Parents’ player of the match went to Paige for making a string of terrific saves as goalkeeper.  Players’ player of the match went to Primrose for her endless energy and link up play in midfield.

Thanks as always to parents/carers for their continued support.  See you next week.
