Match report
06.11.2022
For the second successive Sunday, Rugby found themselves travelling to an away fixture for an early kick off.
Despite the cold weather now setting in, the girls arrived in great spirits. The game was played over 4 quarters.
Rugby started with Ada as goalkeeper, Charlotte in defence, Primrose and Flossy in midfield with Sophie as striker. The opposition started strongly and managed several attacks on Rugby’s goal. For the second successive week, Ada was excellent in goal and Rugby successfully neutralised the opposition’s pressing tactics. Despite an early setback which was incredibly unlucky for Rugby, the team defended well for the first quarter with Charlotte outstanding in defence, blocking everything that came her way.
In the second quarter, Rugby changed their formation with Primrose as defender, Imogen and Sophie in midfield and Flossie as striker. Ada remained in goal and continued to demonstrate her positional awareness by dealing with any attack on Rugby ‘s goal. During this second quarter, Rugby were an even match for the opposition and hustled well in midfield. Flossie and Sophie linked up effectively with Imogen making some good tackles. Primrose also defended excellently and, as always, was full of energy chasing the ball and making impressive runs.
After half time, Flossy transferred to goalkeeper, Charlotte moved back to defence, Imogen and Sophie occupying midfield with Primrose up front. The opposition started the second half with real purpose and Rugby were unfortunately unable to withstand the relentless attacks on Rugby’s goal.
The final quarter saw the introduction of Ada as part of Rugby’s defence and Charlotte playing as goalkeeper. Rugby were nearly rewarded with success towards the end of the quarter with Sophie being unlucky after a brilliant run on the opponent’s goal. The opponents finished the game strongly and were rewarded with successes following their heavy pressing of Rugby’s defence.
Overall, against a tough and older opposition the girls were great. As always, they finished the game smiling! Lots of positives to take away and plenty of things to work on in training over the coming weeks. Well done girls for never giving up and keeping going!
