Rugby Town u13s Lionesses hosted Attleborough having played them the previous week. Rugby were looking to keep up their great form in the first 7 games. The players were also looking to put the disappointment of the previous week’s draw behind them.

Rugby started the game very well, and had the opposition under pressure from the start. Rugby had two great chances in the first 5 minutes, and the pressure on the opposition showed when a lovely Rugby corner was turned in by an Attleborough defender.

Rugby continued with some nice play, and there were a number of good linked passes, where girls were making supporting runs, and making themselves available for a pass. It was clear the girls are playing with confidence, and are starting to co-ordinate their attacking moves, and defending well as a unit.

Jess had a number of good chances, and these were only stopped by some good saves by the Attleborough keeper. However Jess did not let this frustrate her, and she was finally rewarded by a nicely finished goal.

The third Rugby goal was a fantastic individual effort, where Poppy pressed the Attleborough defender, who lost possession. Poppy punished this mistake, by some nice footwork, and put a strong shot in from distance giving the Attleborough keeper no chance.

Emmi had a strong performance in goal, doing everything expected of her, and dealt with a lobbed shot which looked to be dipping under the cross bar, but Emmi managed to keep it out with some quick footwork.

Throughout the game, defenders Ruby, Lena, Alice and Maddie showed great work rate and how well they read the game. As they dealt well with the Attleborough attack.

In central midfield Katie had a great game, and nipped many opposition attacks in the bud early. She also distributed the ball out to the wide players.

The wide players of Poppy, Elisa, Macy and El all contributed well, and made some lovely attacking runs beating opposition defenders to put the ball into some dangerous areas. All four rotated during the game to keep legs fresh and this was rewarded.

Making their league debuts were Lily and Maisey. Who both came on and had nice spells, with Lily making a nice pass to start a good attacking move. Maisey was also busy on the pitch and found herself with an opportunity to score on her debut, however Attleborough reacted quickly and the chance was gone. Well done to both girls.

Rugby’s attack was lead by Jess and Agga, who linked up really well. They made a number nice of one-twos, and made some great supportive runs as well as runs of their own.

Rugby were playing well, but Attleborough never gave up, and despite Rugby having the best of the play, Attleborough did get a goal back. However Rugby controlled the game well and this was only going to be a consolation goal.

Final score 3-1

Thank you to Pete for assisting and running the line, and thanks to the parents for their fantastic support of the girls.
