Team: Phoebe, Roisin, Sienna W., Sienna M., Emilia, Emy-Mae, Izzy, Esme

It was just a hop and a skip for our away fixture to face Rugby Borough U9s. For the second week running the coaching team had the same squad to play and rotate against what looked like strong opposition on this early morning start.

The match started with Phoebe in goal, Izzy in defence, Sienna W. and Emilia wide and Roisin up front. The game started with positive passing and a good percentage of possession for the Town girls and Phoebe made an outstanding save in the first period. Sienna W. again throughout showed her skill on the ball and her ability to find team mates with some nice crisp passing and forward attacking and defensive play. Roisin worked well with her team mates and is growing in confidence week by week and made good space and play up front. Despite the even possession of the first 5 mins, Borough demonstrated an effective corner play, followed by section of sustained pressure on the Rugby Town goal.

Substitutions introduced Emy-Mae, Sienna M. and Esme, and despite the changes the Borough pressure continued for a short while. This moment seemed to fire up the Town girls to produce a period of sustained pressure with Sienna M. using her pace to outrun a Borough defender. Izzy and Emy-Mae were working end to end for the team with some critical interceptions and with an incredible work rate. As part of this Emy-Mae passed a perfect through ball to the Town attacking line. This positive attacking momentum left the Town’s defence open to the counter attack.

Into the second half, with Esme coming in as goalie, Rugby Town enjoyed a sustained period of pressure and possession. Emilia, working with strong pace and endeavour as she had throughout the match, from some excellent build up play supported by her team mates. Esme made some excellent stops and again is building on her confidence between the sticks, whilst showing real versatility. As we entered the last 10 minutes and with Phoebe playing up front, Town continued to persevere, with tenacity and positive platy Sienna M. Another example of solid effort from the whole team, demonstrating pace and resilience. This was a hardworking, tough, and competitive game for the team, exhibiting good teamwork, passing, and individual play for the girls and coaching team to build on.

POM: Sienna W. for her composure on the ball and vision to see the plays and make the passes to link up for the attack.

PPOM: Izzy for her hardworking display throughout the match with some good strong challenges in a tough and competitive match.
