It was a brisk, cold morning in Swadlincote and an early start (!!), 09:00 meet for a 09:30 kick off in South Derbyshire.

Rugby had decided to go with an attacking formation for the game adopting an interchangeable 2-1-5 and 2-3-3.

Rugby started the game brightly and after 6 minutes Jasmine opened the scoring after a through ball from Erin, a few minutes later Macey had a good shot after another through ball from Erin.

Rugby were working hard and after 12 minutes Caitlin scored her first competitive goal to make it 2-0. Erin also came close to scoring only to be denied by the Albert Village goalkeeper who saved well.

Sophie, who worked hard all game, then hit a great shot but was unlucky to see it hit the bar. Rugby were well into their stride now and kept attacking, Erin unlucky to be caught offside after putting the ball into the back of the net.

It didn’t take too long for Rugby to be successful again with Jasmine making it 3-0 shortly after shooting wide,  a minute later it was 4 with Bianca scoring after a powerful run and shot.

4-0 at half time but it wasn’t all one way traffic with Albert Village scoring early on in the second half to make it 4-1.

With encouragement from Dave and Dave Rugby attacked again and Jasmine scored again to complete her hat-trick. Albert Village kept battling and didn’t give up at all, their hard work rewarded with a second goal to make it 5-2.

After 55 minutes Sophie had a run down the wing and put in a great cross which was well finished by Macey to make it 6-2 to Rugby.

Full time 6-2, thoroughly deserved win for Rugby against an Albert Village team that didn’t give up for the entire game.
