Rugby Town u13s Lionesses v Syston Town u13s.

Sunday 9th October 2022

Squad: Alice, Beth, El, Jess, Katie, Lena, Lily, Macy, Maddie, Maisey, Matilda, Ruby, Tanisha

Rugby Town u13s Lionesses hosted Syston Town u13s, in their first home game of the season.

Rugby having had a successful start to the season, were confident going into the game against the team currently top of the league, despite a number of girls being unavailable.

The game was very competitive from the kick off, and this tempo just didn’t drop.

Tanisha stepped into goal, due to our normal keeper being unavailable. Tanisha should be proud of her performance, and reacted well to any efforts on her goal. It was great to see the Rugby defence rally around her to deal with any of the Syston attacks.

The Rugby defence battled hard the entire game, with Alice, Ruby, Beth, Lena and Maddie all putting in a shift…and shut out the two opposition strikers who had 16 goals between them in their first 4 games.

El, Katie, Matilda and Macy played in midfield during the game, and ran their socks off battling for every ball. Both breaking down Syston attacks and getting the ball forward in the attack.

Jess led the attack again today, and against a strong opposition had to be ready to pounce on any opportunity as well as carve out her own.

The game was end to end for the whole game, neither team letting their work rate drop.

The game was 0-0 at half time, but the break through came in the second half when a fantastic corner taken by Macy, which was finished well at close range by Jess

With the lead, Rugby knew they could now win what was arguably an early season ‘6 pointer’. Rugby fought valiantly for the remaining time, and saw the game out.

Final score 1-0

Parents player: Tanisha , for bravely stepping into goal without any notice, and performing well.

Managers player: Maddie, for strong defensive performance, especially when Syston were often overloading that side of the pitch.

Thank you to Pete for assisting and running the line, and thanks to the parents for their fantastic support of the girls.
