Rugby Town Girls U10s V Burbage

Rugby made a great start and made an immediate impact with their play. Millie and Ellie were getting a lot of joy down the right and taking every opportunity to cross the ball towards Liv and Emma. Liv used her positive positioning to receive the ball and turn and test the Burbage’s keeper from range. Emma demonstrated her ability to play passes to all areas of the pitch and the Burbage keeper was continually required to demonstrate her strong reflexes. Midway through the half, Sophie and Bella moved into midfield. As always, Bella was tenacious and energetic in midfield. She broke up a number of attacks and then moved the ball on to instigate some dangerous counterattacks. Rugby finished the half to the sound of enthusiastic applause.

The 2nd half ebbed and flowed. Sophie had moved into goal and Norah was now in the back 2. Rugby continued to pass the ball well but was generally limited to long-range efforts. The fast pace of the game inevitably led to a raft of substitutions from both sides. Millie replaced Liv upfront and made some good movement down the flanks and received some good passes from Anika and Ellie.

In the final 10 the game became stretched but Sophie maintained her concentration on the goal and Poppy, Rishi and Norah did a great job infront to protect the goal. Meanwhile, in attack Emma, Ellie and Millie continued to keep the Burbage defence busy.

This was Rugby’s best performance of the year so far. All players worked terrifically as a team and it was pleasing to see them passing and moving effectively.

Parents player: Rishi read the game excellently allowing her to intercept attacks and feed the ball into midfield.

Managers player: Ellie passed the ball brilliantly and made great movements to receive the ball back again which led to great success
