Birstall 0-14 Rugby Town “Up & Running…”
Rugby travelled to Birstall for their season opener and put them to the sword with a ruthless display.
The first goal came from Cara who raced clear to score. Next Arlo came out and cleared with a great kick to Fifi who played it through for Cara to grab her second.
Sophie L showed fantastic skill to beat two defenders and shoot into the corner for the 3rd. It was soon 4 when Hollie won the ball in midfield and stormed through to score.
A 5th came when Sofia whipped in a great corner to the front post and Hollie reacted first to get her second of the game. Soapy was again involved when she crossed to Cara who completed a first half hat trick, and she made it 4 personal goals with another tidy run and finish.
Just before half time Hollie made it 0-8 when she calmly slotted in her 3rd to claim her own hat trick. The girls were dominating but Arlo had to be alert to come off the line and clear, and both Ria and Ruby were solid in defence. HT 0-8
In the second half Rugby were perhaps a little guilty of not passing enough and missing several chances, however 6 more were added to the scoreline without reply.
Birstall were really struggling to live with the work rate and physicality of Rugby which was epitomised by Macy and Pauline. Sophie C played a brilliant through ball to Sofia who made no mistake. Grace R then played another classy through ball for Bailey to race onto and score her first.
Grace got on the ball again and playe in Sophia who delivered a pin point cross for Bailey to score from close range. Bailey then repayed the favour by crossing to Sophia who unleashed a ferocious strike to score her 2nd and Rugby’s 12th. Bailey completed her hat trick after good work from Chloe and with the last kick of the game Ellie stole in at the back post to slide in the final goal of the game.
Every player added something to the game, and with many of the girls playing competitively together for the first time it was very pleasing.
Fifi 🏆 took both parents and coaches PotM for a commanding and composed game at the back.
Special mention to Grace W in her first game. Well done to all the girls on a fantastic performance! 👏🏽
