“Work to do”

Plenty of positives from today’s game, especially when we think this time last year, we’d have likely lost this fixture by several goals. However, it was a reality check for the team compared to our last outing. The simple fact is that we all learn far more from close games than we do from 14-0 wins, as good as they can be for confidence!

And so, this morning provided and excellent test and opportunity for the girls to improve. The first half was very even with neither team achieving a shot on target, and much of the play focused in the midfield areas. We simply could not find the penetrative passes needed to get in behind Bosworth and release our front 3. This demonstrates the need to continue working on our approach and build up play.

In the second half our fitness began to falter, and this led to more inaccurate passes and recovery runs. Turning over the ball like this is difficult both physically and psychologically and in truth, albeit from a fortuitous penalty, our opponents deserved to win as they dominated second half proceedings.

It was great to see the defensive principles we worked on in training being so well executed, but we must now concentrate on better ball control and short passing so we can work the ball forwards on big pitches and maintain possession for more than a few seconds.

Our most successful player with regards to pass completion was Hav, and she took the coaches player of the match award today 🏆👏🏽. Well done to all and see you Friday! Thanks to the parents for your support and running of the line and our sponsors Pawprints
