Rugby Town U8 Girls v Anstey Nomads U8 Swift Girls

10th April 2022, kick off 10:30

Team – Alexis, Emilia, Emy-Mae , Phoebe, Sienna M

Sponsor – Lightning Tools

Another mid-morning kick-off at home this week, thankfully glorious warm sunshine ensures everyone turns up cheerful and full of energy.

Having never played this week’s opposition before we weren’t sure what we could expect from them. During warm up we witnessed some strong players in the ranks of the opposition, so we (the coaches and I think, some parents) were wary of what was to come.

Worry we need not, even with two of our players dragging themselves to the match after being taken ill in the days leading up to this match, the team showed real character. The first half (and the entire game for that matter) started with the girls determined to play on the front foot. Always positive in possession, aggressive off the ball, with some important defensive interceptions, slick forward passes and some fantastic solo forward drives sweeping aside the opposition. We always had a threat of making the home crowd cheer even when our poorly troopers had to take a rest leaving us playing 4 vs. 5.

For those that witnessed this match they would have seen real team spirit, it was really a fantastic team performance. All of us were so pleased/proud to see the togetherness of this constantly improving team. So nice to see the girls encouraging each other, congratulating each other and at times putting a consoling arm around each other. This will surely ensure our girls will form and unbreakable team bond going forward.

To give some perspective, we include some of the many quotes about the game from parents & coaches that witnessed the game and which shows how proud we all are of the team…

“Phenomenal performance today.”

“Really played hard having no subs.”

“There wasn’t any hesitation or watching. The team put everything into it.”

“We have a very good squad who seem to enjoy playing.”

“ They are improving week on week.”

“It was a brilliant team performance today, all giving everything for each other.”

Managers’ player – Emilia, one of her best performances to date. Tenacious defending, positive attacking, spells of outright genius & working hard throughout the entire game until its death. Possibly even more energetic in the final minutes.

Parents’ player –Emy-Mae, as usual, had a seriously hard work rate throughout the entire game. Constantly covering defensive positions when needed. Very mature performance with real determination to help out her teammates when they needed it most.
