A midweek friendly match for the women after a few weeks’ break from league action. With the HMP team coming back together from past success, Rugby Town WFC was pleased to facilitate the fixture which was held at the Prison Service College Newbold Revel, Brinklow. Rugby players came straight from work, school, and college. No doubt there will be some stiff muscles this morning due to the pace of the match.
Rugby Town’s team combined a group of women players from the existing team, returning ex-club players, long-term injuries players returning, and younger club players stepping up for the first time to the women’s team.
Such was the makeup of Rugby it was hard to know how the team would gel and play. However, early nerves were dispelled, and the match was a spectacle of attacking football, great defending from old heads and energetic youth in midfield, and some tough tackling by all. The club is proud to continue promoting its younger players to the team and what a fantastic game it was to be part of and also watch for the management and spectators.
Thanks go to the HMP Prison Service team who provided the pitch and the three-match officials and all the Rugby Town players who could make the event.
