Today saw Rugby Town host Kibworth Town after many weeks of playing away this was a nice change. It was a lovely morning for a game of football with the sun shining and temperatures not too warm. Off the back of last week’s unlucky result in the cup Rugby Town were raring to go this week to prove how good they are.

We started off really well with some end-to-end football from both sides. Rugby were really working hard on their pressing skills and were forcing multiple errors from Kibworth. Rugby were attacking and pressing well and causing real problems for Kibworth.   Millie and Ellie did really well to keep the pressure on the opposition.

With lots of good defending from Poppy lots more chances were being made for Rugby and Ellie was there to apply more pressure. As the half went on Rugby saw Jesmin, who had worked really hard in midfield stopping lots of attacks in the middle of the park, swap for Norah who was having a go in midfield. Ellie also came off for a rest after consistent work upfront swapped for Bella who brought some well needed energy to the pitch.

Poppy and Olivia had very little to do at the back. Olivia’s big goal kicks proved troublesome for Kibworth’s defence leading to a handball on the edge of the box.

In the second half Rugby went in energised but Kibworth came out fighting and put up much more of a battle. This half saw Norah in goal and showed off her good goalkeeping by playing some great goal kicks out and diving action.

Liv then entered the field and stepped-up front. Ellie and Millie were working well in midfield and created lots of chances. Bella played really well in defence today and was a solid wall letting very little past her. She also played some really good balls out and up the pitch.

Poppy then entered the pitch for Millie and had a run in midfield. Poppy played some good passes and created lot of space for Ellie and Liv to run into.Liv was causing lots of trouble for the Kibworth defenders on the right hand side. As the match was coming to an end Kibworth began to tire and Rugby took advantage.

A great game today from all after the disappointment from last week’s game. They all enjoyed their Krispy Kreme doughnuts they were promised. Back to Kibworth next week for the Shield quarter final.

Thank you to Tony for refereeing.  Tony gave his player of the match to Poppy today for some solid defending and great tackles.

Managers player went to Bella today for her great concentration in defence and her intelligent passes.
