Haunchwood Ul11 v Rugby Town Girls U11

Sunday 20th March

Squad: Liv, Sophia, Jasmine, Olivia, Ruby, Annabelle, Anya, Esme, Ava

Sponsor: Ados Group Ltd

An early start for Rugby this week to be at the Haunchwood ground for a 09:30 kick off. The sun was out again which is always welcomed by the travelling support.

The game started brightly for Rugby with early crosses from both Jasmine and Ruby, this was going to be a recurring theme in the first half. It was certainly not one way traffic as the Rugby defence had to stay alert, Esme with a clearance to keep Haunchwood out.

Haunchwood started to come back at Rugby causing a bit of panic in the Rugby box after a scramble in front of Liv’s goal.

Rugby came alive again and started to test the Haunchwood keeper, who was excellent throughout the whole game. Haunchwood came straight back at Rugby. Tristan decided that it was time for a change and Annabelle and Ava came on to give a couple of the players a rest. This inspired Rugby to attack again with a good run from Ruby and good football from Ava ended an enthralling first half.

The second half started well for Haunchwood as they were camped in the Rugby half but Esme and Olivia were again excellent at protecting Liv’s goal.

Rugby came back into the game after the early pressure and Ava again playing some very positive football. Rugby had to keep on their toes as the Haunchwood goalkeeper had a very big kick and was testing the defence on every goal kick.

Back came Haunchwood again and the  game was becoming more open as the half went on. The game was now end to end with both sides looking for more progression.   Sophia and Jasmine were both driving hard to deliver on Rugby’s game plan.

Haunchwood were still pressing and Ruby and Annabelle, who were now in defence, had to make some big tackles and clearances to keep Haunchwood at bay. Late into the second half Jasmine had another good run at the Hanuchwood goal.

A really enjoyable game to watch for the parents and it was pleasing to see the team bringing what they had been practising at training to the match. Some of the link up play and quick passes made were excellent and all of the team worked incredibly hard. The only thing missing this morning was a snack table for the parents which some of the other matches seemed to have!

Coaches/parents player of the match – Jasmine

Thanks to Tristan for coaching the team during the game, to Haunchwood for such a great game, to the Haunchwood referee and to all the parents for their enthusiastic support.
